Well, I have great news for you! 

The Open University have launched a new online suite of training programmes that cover all the key areas that you will need

Each module has a modest price, and some you can pass just by showing that you already have appropriate prior learning. If you study all of them you will get a certificate of recognition that will be useful if and when you apply for funding

The course was put together after Natasha Gordon and I realised that this was a big unmet need in the science research world, especially after we had visited researchers in Africaand Asia who were working miles from a university. Wellcome Trust (where we both worked at the time) helped fund the development, and support came from the MRC and Pasteur, Gates, BBSRC and the OU
